Hatchet 3 is the horror film of 2013 in the Hatchet series. It tells the story of Victor Crowley, his murderous rampage through Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. Kane Hodder plays Victor Crowley and Brian Quinn is Deputy Winslow. Rileah Vanderbilt plays Misty.



The use of special effects is the main feature of the film. Hatchet 3 uses a majority of makeup effects that are practical and sets. This is different from the majority of horror films nowadays that heavily rely on CG effects. It also features some really horrifying moments.

Kane Hodder stands out as an intimidating character. The cast gives a solid performance. It feels like an '80s slasher movie and the dialogue is a bit too funny and snarky. There are moments of humor in the movie that add humor to all bloody action.

Unfortunately because of the small budget (reportedly just $1 million) many of the locations are re-used from previous films in the series. The same boat house was used twice in the film and much of it appears to be a re-use from other films in this series. If you've watched Hatchet or Hatchet 2, this can sometimes make the film feel familiar.

Overall, Hatchet 3 was a good series overall. There (blog post) were plenty of gory thrills and several great performances by the cast.
